The Gory Animated Film Ending That Lingers Audiences

Out of every mature cartoon movies I’ve ever watched, nothing has stuck with me quite like the terror-laced ending of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director crafted a dark, bleak and frequently brutal world that included several minor , forlorn glimmers of hope.

While Unicorn Wars feels like it originated from a drive to advance the medium further, the filmmaker explained that it was more a try to convey a widespread, cross-cultural message concerning “the mutual source of all wars.”

That message is communicated by means of a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously inspired by a well-known line of lovable figures.

Growing up in a culture built around militarism and the defense industry, numerous these animals are obsessed with killing unicorns, due to a religious scripture that claims them they were once rulers of the forest, before these creatures expelled them.

Some did not entirely fallen for the indoctrination, and choose to sample narcotics or engage sexually outdoors.

In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters display genitals and obvious urges.

For a certain notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the war with unicorns turns into a path toward dominance — and particularly to authority over his softer, more compassionate sibling Tubby.

The character is a bully and a seeming sociopath , and while terror takes over his group and kills his teammates one by one, he takes more and more influence personally, in increasingly violent, damaging approaches.

At the same time, the unicorns are enduring their own terror, as an expanding, destructive monster in their habitat.

“At the beginning, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “However it evolves into a more intense and sad film. And by the end, it transforms into a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars commences resembling among the quirky features by an iconic animator, that discover a naughty glee in letting animated figures curse, shoot each other, or engage sexually.

Afterward it becomes something more like a more grim movie by that same artist, including ever more visual gore , a palpable relation to genuine horror of conflict.

By the end, it’s a complete Grand Guignol bloodbath.

The fear that makes this an ideal spooky-season viewing kicks in well before than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of intense movies who wish to view a film they have not seen on-screen before, and can endure a story that offers absolutely no punches.

Watch it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the conclusion will burrow into your mind and linger.
